We would like to know if any of you have outsourced or investigated suppliers of network monitoring services.  We are interested in very basic network monitoring, such as “red light/green light”, alert notification and, possible, capacity monitoring of critical areas/services.   If you have any experience with such vendors, we would be interested in your experience and discussing further off line.

Thanks,

Rick

We use Monitis for an “Outside looking in” view. Some services are monitored by agents, others by connecting to them.

Indiana University in conjunction with Internet2 offers this service, as well as Clemson.

We use Site24/7 <www.site24x7.com> for monitoring our public systems. I believe we have it checking a our web server, email, and a portal service for availability from outside of our network. I don't work directly with it, my manager does, but I've heard him say the rates are reasonable and they have different levels of service.
