Job Summary Information and Technology Services (ITS) has an immediate opening for an experienced Intermediate Network Planning Analyst to support the University's data networks. The individual will be part of a cohesive team that is responsible for administering over 7000 routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points; oversee the networks for 6 campus Data Centers including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. This position will initially maintain and administer the UofM Housings Layer 2 networks then expand to the campus networks. The team is always looking for ways to be ready for the challenges of tomorrow. Responsibilities* *Plan, evaluate, diagnose, and resolve complex switching, routing, security, performance and protocol problems associated with the University of Michigan Campus networks, including recommendations for improvements and upgrades. *Maintain and administer network tools associated with the support of the UofM campus housing networks. *Configure, deploy, test and maintain campus IP network systems at various campus sites. This includes switches/routers/wireless equipment, firewalls. *Contribute to the development of support tools for maintaining and troubleshooting UMs network infrastructure. *Monitor, troubleshoot and repair hardware, software and infrastructure problems pertaining to our data networks. *Resolve network system failures and problems through isolation, analysis and troubleshooting procedures. *Research new products and technologies that will improve network infrastructure. *Mentor others on products and technologies. *Occasionally lead operational projects. Required Qualifications* *Bachelor?s degree in computer science and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. *2 years? experience with and demonstrated knowledge of layer 2 IP networks, including VLANs, 802.1X. *Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills demonstrated in a complex networking environment. *Knowledge and experience with of Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. *Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects and work. *Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. *Experience and desire to work in a customer driven environment. *Demonstrated good customer service skills. *Knowledge/experience with the use of network management tools Must ? - be available to work overtime on short notice. - be available for on-call rotation. - drive a university vehicle and meet university requirements to have a valid driver license with less than 7 points. Desired Qualifications* *Experience with layer 3 IP networks and routing protocols including OSPF, and BGP. *Experience with Firewalls, VPNs *Experience with a programming language such as Perl. *Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the architecture, design and support of IP layer 3 networks at an enterprise level. *Strong knowledge of various operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux). *Experience in troubleshooting fiber and copper.
