Hi Christina,

Can this adapter connect to a WPA-Enterprise / 802.1X network on a Mac?

Thanks!

All,

I wanted to follow up on this thread from last month. I have been looking for a Mac Airport replacement for potential faulty Airport hardware. I have tried two products that have worked out really well. The first one is the Bear Extender:

This is a 2.4Ghz wireless radio can clamp onto a laptop. It comes with a 2dBi omni antenna and you can purchase an optional 5dBi omni antenna. I used something similar for doing 2.4 site surveys back in the day.

The second one is the LG-Ericsson USB-1040 adapter:

Note: the included software from LG does not support WPA2-Enterprise. Ericsson's support stated the following:

"Unfortunately there is no ETA for when the functionality you requested will be available.   We are constantly looking at new opportunities and feature requests.  I will make sure to provide this feedback to the product group."

The great thing is the Bear Extender and the USB-1040 use the same "Ralink" software to control their respective wireless devices on a Mac. The Bear Extender software is an updated version and works for both it and the LG product. This allows the LG product to fully support WPA2-Enterprise and granularity of selecting the 2.4, 2.4 + 5, and 5 radio combinations.

I wanted to pass this on to anyone that may be interested.

Thanks!

-Mike
