We are also a Moodle school, with Mahara. The out-of-the-box analytics and report development tools in Mahara are not there at all.

We are looking at TaskStream and Chalk & Wire specifically for these kinds of capabilities.

The Chalk & Wire demo we got was outstanding.

TaskStream is going through a major design overhaul right now – due this month, so I would wait until it has launched before you tour its system. But you could at least inquire.

Subject: [INSTTECH] Institutional assessment and e-portfolios (groan)

Hi All,

Please forgive my cross posting. I want to reach the largest number of people.

We have received a request from our Institutional Research department for a tool that would allow them or part of their staff to:
  • Assess the student’s work - one person would be able to see what a student answered to an essay question and be able to give an advisor access to “this” piece of the student’s eportfolio
  • Be able to export the information like “here are all the student’s responses to XX question” to share with whomever
  • Add an assignment (a survey) to a students's folder, for all students meeting criteria X
  • have an Eportfolio system for student to add things to, but also a way for a central entity to access and view a student’s work
  • Sometimes they are scoring a student’s answers, sometimes they just want to make sure our students can articulate clearly and if the majority cannot then the curriculum needs to be changed
  • Not related to course assessments or evaluations or grades
We are a Moodle school and discussed Mahara as a possibility, but it seemed from our IR department that Mahara is more student controlled and cannot do the central assessment piece that they are interested in.The IR department is currently using Class Climate. They believe that TK20 can do what we need it to, but he’s not sure. Do you know of anyone that is doing something like this? If so how are they doing it? What application(s) are they using?

Thank you,

Jedidiah

We use Task Stream (sometimes called Task Scream) for this right now but the price is very expensive compared to other ePortfolios. Additionally, the students don't really see it as a showcase; it is rather an assessment portfolio. I too am looking for the best of both worlds. We currently use this for TEAC/NCATE evaluations, not for grades.
