Colleagues,

I thought this group might be interested in a new MOOC that Marist College has just launched in the area of fashion.

In addition to the MOOC being the first fashion MOOC that at least I'm aware of, it is also unique in that it has been developed by our fashion students through a special course last semester (with close oversight from our fashion faculty) and will be facilitated by the same student team this semester.  This is a bit of an experiment but we are interested in understanding how we can use MOOCs to not just deliver education but leverage them to create unique and interesting real world learning experiences for our own students.

Details are below, please feel free to re-post this to others who may be interested...

Marist College's fashion students have recently launched one of the world's first fashion MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) which is now open for registration and is free to anyone who is interested in participating!  Details on the course and how to register are below.  Please distribute this email to anyone or any group you think may be interested.

Future of Fashion MOOC Overview
==================================
START DATE: March 12, 2014
LENGTH: 12 weeks (self-paced)

 Developed and administered entirely by students, this 12-module free online course will guide participants through the theories of trend movement, the history of street fashion, how to spot and contextualize important trends and finally, creating a digital "portfolio" of street-style observations. A typical module might include a web exploration, an image gallery, a brief reading and guiding questions. Although they are designed to be completed on a weekly basis, users may progress through the sections entirely at their own pace. Once three modules have been completed, a quiz will be administered and participants will be able to move forward through the next three. Quizzes assess completion of course content and can be taken multiple times.

Most importantly, the Future of Fashion MOOC is a fun, fast-moving project that will enhance anyone's understanding of fashion, trend, style and culture. Take it alone, or with a friend! Check out the student video to learn more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVEJzFFXxwU

Joshua,

This is a very interesting experiment. I just signed up! I like the idea of creating MOOCs “to not just deliver education but leverage them to create unique and interesting real world learning experiences for our own students.” I’m looking forward to being a part of how it all plays itself out.

Best regards,

Corey,

Thanks for the feedback!  We've been experimenting with MOOC since last year and although we've found them to be useful marketing tools we felt we could leverage them more and have begun to do a range of experiments, this being one.

Hope you enjoy the course!

Josh
p.s. Given your role any feedback you have on the course design would be great to share with the students who are running it....we've really let them drive this and make their own decisions...feedback from real users will be a powerful learning experience for them.
