As part of an after hours pet project, I captured a snapshot of 1,831 web sites (from August 19, 2008) that were cited as the home page of EDUCAUSE Member organizations.
I thought it might be an interesting way to get a feel for what's going on in our community and maybe glean a tip or two from what others are doing on the web.
After sifting through it a while, I thought it might be worth sharing.
It is a little slow, and it sure ain't pretty, but it seems fairly functional. The regular expression option needs some work tho'.
I think it'd be fascinating to collect a larger, more detailed sample
(maybe using heritrix?) and even
try to classify different types of pages ... library sites, departmental sites, student sites, etc ...
and then work up some real analysis of who's doing what and then trend it over time.
Heh, I probably don't have the time for that, but I'd love to hear any feedback you might
have. Give it a few clicks, and let me know what you think!
