Toward Social Learning in Blended Learning Faculty Fellows Program (Pilot Program/Emerging Technology)
Feb 14th, 2011
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Lincoln WestEastern Time
Session Type: Concurrent Session
At Pepperdine's Graziadio School of Business and Management, a Blended Learning Faculty Fellows program is in its second year to support, incentivize, and propagate social learning while increasing student access, flexibility, and satisfaction in their MBA program. With faculty representation across academic departments, an open learning network (OLN) is used to securely conduct courses in a blend of face-to-face and online synchronous and asynchronous modalities. Using a Facebook-like tool within the OLN, students converse and collectively analyze business case studies while faculty apply social learning methods. In this session, we highlight both the faculty fellows program and social learning methodology.
* Understand the fundamental concepts of social learning.
* Explore examples of social learning methods and application in an internal social network.
* Understand the role of social learning in well-honed blended courses.
* Examine an Open Learning Network implementation that fosters social learning.
