Today's mobile communications technologies are redefining the roles of students studying abroad and in other settings external to the residential campus. Students at UNC–Chapel Hill studying in Seville, Spain, are serving as course correspondents for residential language and culture courses. By capturing and sharing video and photos using low-cost mobile devices and software, these students serve as the "eyes and ears on the ground" for their peers back home. Faculty members involved in creating the program will share their goals and vision for the program, examples of course correspondent activities, and program evaluation results covering three semesters.
Learning Objectives:
* Get ideas for linking the residential curriculum and external study opportunities at your institution
* Learn suggested strategies for introducing students to authentic cultural content
* Instructional techniques and assignments that promote student engagement around rich media
* Gain an understanding of the administrative, technical, and logistical challenges of linking residential and study abroad programs via the curriculum
