Faculty

While we automatically think of students as learners, faculty are learners as well. This may be particularly true for learning technologies. Most faculty received their academic training in a pre-Internet world and may have had no formal exposure to learning principles and practices. Because technology, pedagogy, and our disciplines change, faculty are lifelong learners.

Questions the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) explores include:

  • How is faculty work likely to change in the next five to ten years? What changes will be required to meet student expectations? To improve the quality of faculty life?
  • At what point in a faculty (or future faculty) member's career is education regarding pedagogy, technology, and learning practice most helpful?
  • What models are most effective in helping faculty use technology in service to learning?
  • What resources remove barriers to faculty adoption of technology?
