Susan Fratkin
Susan Fratkin is a public policy analyst concentrating on technology and telecommunications issues. Realizing the impact that the growth in technology would have on issues facing the higher education community, Susan founded Fratkin Associates in 1991. She regularly interacts with Congressional and Federal Agency personnel and reports on governmental hearings, programs and publications, analyzing relevant legislation and regulations.
Fratkin Associates clients include: the EDUCAUSE Public Policy Task Force, Internet2, and the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA). She also serves as the Washington liaison for the Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation, an alliance of thirty-five Academic Supercomputing Centers in twenty-two states.
As the author of numerous articles on public policy and telecommunications and technology policy vis a vis the higher education community, she participates as a panelist at national conferences and has served as a reviewer for Federal education technology programs.
Garret Sern
Garret Sern is a Government Relations Officer for EDUCAUSE, analyzing and reporting to its membership on a wide-range of IT issues impacting the higher education community. He currently is facilitating the Advanced Core Technologies Initiative (ACTI), a new EDUCAUSE enterprise bringing together higher education IT professionals to tackle technical challenges. He also continues to serve as the staff liaison for the EDUCAUSE Campus Cyberinfrastructure Working Group.
Prior to EDUCAUSE, Garret worked for FARNET, the Federation of American Research Networks. He continues to leverage his expertise on state and regional networks for EDUCAUSE. He also has five years experience working for Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) in directory publishing and has worked on several successful electoral campaigns in the state of Maryland.
Garret is an alumnus of Loyola College in Maryland, and the American University where he earned an MA in International Communication.
