Digital Certificates: Coming of Age


The authors give an updated overview of the latest digital certificates technology.

Judith V. Boettcher

Judith V. Boettcher is a consultant and author in the areas of designing for learning, faculty development, and the future trends of technology in teaching and learning. Judith is currently at the University of Florida in Distance, Continuing and Executive Education and an independent consultant with Designing for Learning. Judith has consulted with a wide range of universities and organizations; has served on many conference boards, and has authored and co-authored/edited many columns, articles, and books addressing design and implementation issues of higher education technology and distance and online learning. She also served as the project leader for the Educational Uses of Information Technology (EUIT) Joe Wyatt Challenge EDUCOM project, 1990-1992, editing the publication 101 Success Stories of Information Technology in Higher Education: The Joe Wyatt Challenge, McGraw-Hill, 1993, while at Penn State University and as Executive Director of CREN for six years.


Robert J. Brentrup

Robert Brentrup is the Associate Director of Technical Services in Dartmouth College's Computing Services. Robert is also co-principal investigator of the Dartmouth-Internet2 PKI Lab. Robert is currently developing and deploying Public Key Infrastructure and applications of it. Other recent projects include the development of authentication and authorization middleware for networked applications. Previously Robert was the director of the Dartmouth College Information System project and managed Library Information Systems. Before moving to Dartmouth College, he worked at Lotus Development Corp., as a system architect on the Lotus Improv, Notes and Jazz products. He is the author of many professional papers and a frequent conference speaker. Robert holds a B.S.E.E. from Michigan Technological University and a M.S.C.E. from Boston University.
