Digitizing Education: A Primer on eBooks

eBooks are bringing the transforming potential of digital media to the very heart of education, changing the way we distribute and interact with information and, ultimately, the way we learn.

Michael A. Looney

As Senior Director, Education & Solutions Marketing, Michael Looney is
charged with working with educators to ensure that Adobe provides
software solutions that meet the unique needs of K-12, colleges and
university teachers and students. Prior to this role, he was in charge
of Adobe's eBook business, where he directed all aspects of Adobe eBook
business development, marketing, and strategy. Dr. Looney has 25 years'
experience as an entrepreneur and high-tech marketing executive. He has
successfully launched new start-up businesses and created new revenue
sources within established companies.

Prior to joining Adobe, he held executive positions at several small,
Internet-based distance-learning companies, and earlier in his career at
Digital Equipment Corporation, Claris Corporation, and Apple Computer,
Inc.

Before entering the high-tech industry, Dr. Looney was a public school
teacher, and a psychologist.

Dr. Looney holds a B.S in Education, an M.A. in Psychology, and a Ph.D.
in Communications.

 

Mark Sheehan

Mark Sheehan is a Senior Research Analyst with the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research. Prior to joining ECAR in July 2006, Sheehan worked at Montana State University as Director of the Information Technology Center (1996 to 2000) and Executive Director for Information Services (2000 to 2006). He has contributed frequently to CAUSE and EDUCAUSE conferences and publications in the past 15 years, was a member of the EDUCAUSE Current Issues Committee from 1995 to 1998, and was a member of the EDUCAUSE Institute Leadership Program faculty from 2003 to 2006. Sheehan earned his PhD at Indiana University, where in 1982 he began his career in information technology.
