Jennifer Sparrow
Jennifer Sparrow is the Director of Emerging Technologies and New Ventures at Virginia Tech. For more than 15 years, she has championed the use of technology to engage students in the learning process. She has a passion for working with faculty to explore new technologies and their potential implementations in teaching and learning.
Jennifer received her bachelor's degree from Smith College, her master'ÂÂs degree from Florida Gulf Coast University, and doctorate from the University of Central Florida. She is currently the chair of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative Advisory Board and serves on the EDUCAUSE Evolving Technologies Committee.
She is a part-time blogger, an infrequent tweeter, technology explorer, and struggling photographer with a biting sense of humor and not enough hours in her day.
AJ Kelton
AJ Kelton is the Director of Emerging Instructional Technology for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He has presented on the topic of virtual worlds in Education both in the U.S. and Internationally and is the author of the ECAR Research Bulletin "Second Life: Reaching into the Virtual World for Real World Learning" and the EDUCAUSE Review Article "Virtual Worlds? 'Outlook Good'"
He is the founder and current leader of the EDUCAUSE Virtual Worlds Constituent Group and Founder and Chief Moderator of the Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable (http://www.vwer.org), a forum bringing together educators from all over the globe interested in discussing a wide variety of topics involving virtual worlds.
He is the owner of AFK Consulting, a company dedicated to providing services in support of virtual worlds, social media and networking, and Web 2.0 initiatives. Mr. Kelton holds a Masters Degree in English, Writing Studies from Montclair State and is currently a Doctoral student in the Educational Communication and Technology program at NYU. Josh Baron
As the Senior Academic Technology Officer for Marist College, Mr. Baron directs the office of Academic Technology and eLearning which is responsible for overseeing a wide range of instructional technology initiatives, including distance learning, faculty professional development, and learner support. He also plays a leadership role in strategic planning for the College in areas of academic and information technology.
Mr. Baron was first elected to the Sakai Foundation Board of Directors in 2008 and re-elected for a second three year term in 2011. He has served as Foundation Board Chair for three years between 2009 and 2012. He is also a member of the EducationDynamics Advisory Board, one of the leading distance education marketing companies in the United States. Before coming to Marist, Mr. Baron was the Associate Director of Instructional Technology at Stevens Institute of Technology. In this capacity, he helped lead a $10 million U.S. Department of Education technology initiative working both at the K-12 and college level. During this time he was also a member of the Stevens WebCampus initiative and developed one of the first Stevens online graduate courses. A third generation educator, he has a deep passion for teaching and technology that stems from his early exposure to LOGO programming through a progressive education program inspired by Seymour Papertâs book âMindstormsâ.
Mr. Baron has presented at numerous national and international higher education and K-12 conferences including EDUCAUSE, Campus Technology, NECC, Sloan-C, League of Innovation in Community Colleges, and the International Sakai conferences. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology Leadership (ETL) from the George Washington University through their pioneering online ETL program.
