Identity and Access Management and Security in Higher Education

Michael R. Gettes

Michael is currently Assistant Director for Middleware(Identity) Services at Carnegie Mellon University. He has spent the last 20 some years in Higher Education IT with Boston, Princeton, Georgetown, Duke, Internet2, MIT and CMU and has been actively involved in the development and management of BITNET, the Internet2 and NSF Middleware Initiatives, various activities of the US Federal Government security efforts, development of standards and practices for directories and calendar systems and active involvement in the EDUCAUSE, Internet2 and various other communities of Higher Education. He holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Boston University in 1985.


Ann West

Ann West manages the InCommon Identity Assurance Program and works with the US Research and Education community and its corporate partners on collaborative projects and services.

Previously Ann held a joint appointment with Internet2 and EDUCAUSE beginning in 2001 to lead the outreach and education effort for their shared NSF awards on identity management. Prior to that time, she served as the Director of Distributed Computing Services at Michigan Technological University and was responsible for the institution's Internet and network-related services and enterprise identity management implementation.
