On the Path to CIO

Mark Askren, CIO for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, discusses the perceived and actual role of the CIO and creating a path to higher education IT leadership.

Mark Askren

Mark Askren is the Chief Information Officer for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His role includes responsibility for the campus-wide leadership of information technology systems and services in support of instruction, research, and outreach. His prior experience includes serving as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administrative Computing Services at the University of California Irvine, where he was also a member of the University of California’s Information Technology Leadership Council. His background also includes serving as Assistant Vice President for Application Development and Data Management at the University of Illinois, and as Assistant Dean for Information Technology at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. Mark completed his master’s degree in Business Economics and Public Policy at Indiana University.
