ACUTA Webinar: The Future of Emergency Communications in Higher Education

ACUTA is very pleased to offer this free webinar for ACUTA members and additional colleagues who have responsibilities for emergency communications. In this webinar Walt Magnussen will update his highly rated session from the 2012 Annual Conference. He will cover emergency communications as it is evolving today, including NG 9-1-1 networks, public safety LTE broadband networks, next-generation emergency notification systems, and other IP-based transition systems. Walt will describe the roles played by the White House, the FCC, DHS, the Department of Commerce, Congress and other entities. He will also talk about impacts on higher education and Internet2's role in deployment.
Walt Magnussen (Director for Telecommunications - Texas A&M University) has been in telecommunications for 37 years. He also directs the TAMU Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center which is a VoIP and IPTV research lab. He chairs committees for Internet2 and Motorola and serves on 2 FCC committees. He has his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
What You Need to Participate
- A computer with a standard browser
- Computer speakers or a phone line (for the audio portion of the webinar) – If you choose a phone line for the audio portion, long-distance charges will apply.
- Your unique GoToWebinar access link – Each participant will also be required to ‘register’ with GoToWebinar in order to participate in this webinar. You will receive a registration confirmation from ACUTA via e-mail which will include detailed instructions on how to register with GoToWebinar and obtain your unique access link.
The webinar technology integrates the presenter’s slides on the Web with a computer-based or phone-based audio seminar. Webinar slides will be available on the ACUTA website prior to the webinar. The presenter will take your questions via the Web.
