Campus IT Policy Workshop 2012

Policy challenges that require collaboration across the campus are increasingly common. At the same time, IT permeates almost every aspect of our institutions, including campus policy. This speaks to the need for an expansive new view of “IT policy” that works in continual partnership with all parts of the institution, both academic and administrative. How do (IT) policy staff engage in this broader context of IT policy, especially if resources devoted to it are minimal?

The Campus IT Policy Workshop provides a highly interactive venue for discovery and discussion of approaches, definitions and tools for developing IT policy and shaping an IT policy program. Facilitated by seasoned practitioners using case studies and hands-on activities, the workshop will cover such topics as:

• The differences between policy, procedures, best practices, and guidelines, and when a policy is necessary.
• How compliance overlaps with policy, and what to do in the absence of a compliance requirement.
• How to approach issues from a policy process perspective.

Key takeaways: In this workshop you will learn principles for good policy making, approaches for engendering institutional agreement, and ideas to advance your institution’s IT policy program.
