Data privacy is frequently a confusing subject. This talk will explain why: Privacy comprises many different rights and protections that may apply in many different circumstances. It's frequently easiest to analyse digital privacy with respect to three different questions: what data is being protected; what kinds of actors does it need to be protected against; and to what ends? The talk will also discuss several kinds of privacy enhancing technologies, and demonstrate why they, too, need to be examined with reference to the particular type of privacy that the user seeks to protect.
