Applying MOOCs in On-Campus Settings: Opportunities, Obstacles, and Results

Tuesday, February 04 | 10:15AM–11:00AM
Session Type: Professional Development

This presentation will use a multiple case study format to illustrate the implementation and impacts from some of the first experiments that explore the rationale and efficacy of adapting MOOCs for on-campus instruction. In this session, edX leadership, university administration, and a third-party researcher will share their insight and perspectives from studying the learning conditions, obstacles, and opportunities from a series of pilot programs where MOOC resources have been leveraged to serve students in a community college and a state university system.

OUTCOMES: Understand how the "MOOC movement" is moving well beyond "massive" * Apply session content to your institution regarding the role of MOOCs/online learning for on-campus education * Create solid rationales for or against your institution's pilots of MOOCs for blended learning * Clarify the scope and intentions of the blended MOOC models being reported in the popular media and how they're being delivered and studied
