Blended Learning Initiatives: Facilitating Institutional Change

Using Graham, Woodfield, and Harrison's "A Framework for Institutional Adoption and Implementation of Blended Learning in Higher Education" as a guideline, we will discuss how UW–Madison has developed programs and initiatives to build a campus-wide blended learning initiative. We will share and invite discussion around the struggles and successes of this fast-moving implementation. Topics will include administrative initiatives, faculty development programs, models and definitions of blended learning, support and development resources, and cultural/infrastructural elements.

OUTCOMES: Identify your institution's stage of adoption and develop appropriate initiatives based on that stage * Identify challenges faced when developing blended learning initiatives in a research-focused institution * Think critically about opportunities for creating blended learning initiatives in a multidisciplinary, decentralized environment * Consider the advantages of a collaborative program framework that brings together campus units and allows for flexible and varied options to explore blended learning * Visualize a portfolio of "sustainable" and scalable services to be developed to meet a variety of instructor experience in this field
