Session Type: Professional Development
Join Malcolm Brown and Veronica Diaz as they moderate this webinar with Jennifer Spohrer, the coordinator for academic technology initiatives at Bryn Mawr College and the project coordinator for a grant-funded study of blended learning in a liberal arts college context. Prior to 2011, studies at large universities and community colleges showed that blended learning, or the combination of online and face-to-face instruction, improved student and faculty satisfaction, student engagement, and student learning outcomes when compared with either fully online or fully face-to-face courses. Yet it wasn't clear how a blended approach would translate to the environment of smaller, more residential colleges or whether one would see similar benefits. In 2011-13, Bryn Mawr College led a 40 team of liberal arts colleges in a Next Generation Learning Challenges grant-funded study to answer those questions. Spohrer will share the team's findings and discuss when, why, and how liberal arts faculty might want to adopt a blended approach to their courses.
