Project sponsors of major ERP implementations try to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency by making a strong push for "vanilla." In Berkeley's case, this meant taking the implementation from 1,500 unique customizations to about 40. Although the implementations may be successful by many measures, campus users (who ultimately render the most important verdicts) can disagree and struggle to complete their work. In this session, we will examine and discuss the lessons of an ERP rollout, which are now informing changes to enterprise architecture, business analysis, campus change management, and the organization itself.
