SEM02P-Preventing a Lawsuit by Preparing for a Breach (separate registration required)

Tuesday, May 06 | 2:00PM–5:30PM | Grand Ballroom Salon E/F
Session Type: Professional Development

Today's complex threat landscape, combined with open, networked environments, highly mobile populations, and the decentralized authorities of higher education institutions, creates a scenario ripe for opportunities and attacks, leading to data breaches. Drawing on experiences with multiple breaches that culminated in a class action lawsuit, the presenters will step through lessons learned and provide an in-depth, detailed analysis and discussion of the events, institutional responses, and the subsequent development of a system-wide information security program. Participants will explore opportunities to conceptualize their own preventive strategies, including identifying tools and procedures to mitigate damages, and will learn how to communicate quickly and appropriately to minimize the potential for litigation.
