2013 Information Security Awareness Video & Poster Contest

Nine winners of the 5th Annual Information Security Awareness Video and Poster Contest have been selected by the EDUCAUSE & Internet2 Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC). The winning videos and posters—developed by college students, for college students—are now available for colleges and universities to use in campus security awareness campaigns during National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October, student orientations, and throughout the year.

Posters
  1. Gold Prize: "Question the Cloud" by David Behar, University of North Florida
  2. Silver Prize: "It's a Jungle in There" by Felipe Collazo, Montgomery College
  3. Bronze Prize: "Lock Your Devices" by Emily Mauro, University of North Carolina at Wilmington
PSAs (30 seconds)
  1. Gold Prize: "Passwords" by Sam Ennis, Iowa State University
  2. Silver Prize: "Share It Right" by Jonathan Kleinpass and Gabe Pannell, San Francisco State University
  3. Bronze Prize: "Stay Safe on Public Wi-Fi Networks" by Priit Joasoo and Catherine Karu, Tartu Art College
Training Videos (2 minutes or less)
  1. Gold Prize: "Warning: Laptop Thieves" by Mario Fabbri, Oakton Community College
  2. Silver Prize: "Phishing: E-Safe" by Trenton Elliott, Eastern Michigan University
  3. Bronze Prize: "IT Security Guards" by Anurakhavan Ketheeswaran, Seneca College
Honorable Mentions

Prizes

Cash prizes have been awarded to the winners in each of the three categories (training videos, 30-second public service announcements, and posters).

Video Categories

  • Gold (first place) winners will receive $2,000.
  • Silver (second place) winners will receive $1,500.
  • Bronze (third place) winners will receive $1,000.
  • Honorable mention winners will receive a small prize -- e.g., Amazon gift card.

 

Poster Category

  • Gold (first place) winner will receive $1,500.
  • Silver (second place) winner will receive $1,000.
  • Bronze (third place) winner will receive $500.
  • Honorable mention winners will receive a small prize -- e.g., Amazon gift card.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Winners will be required to complete and return tax identification forms to EDUCAUSE in order to receive a W-9 Form. Contest participants are advised that any cash prize over $600 must be reported as earnings to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and any taxes due are the sole responsibility of the award recipient.
