Building Scalable Digital Libraries

Abstract

An effective digital library provides instant access to information that has been preserved and archived from any format, including paper, video, microfiche/film or born-digital information. Users are able to read and search text, view photographs, and perform research from anywhere around the world via the Internet or via intranets. More and more libraries are taking advantage of the technologies available to share, preserve, and reuse their valuable assets.
