Abstract
To allow commuting students access to lecture series without needing to return to campus, University of South Florida's Academic Computing began making these events available via its Netcast project. Using an assortment of currently available technologies, both video and audio are streamed via IP multicast in real-time and collected for playback at the student's convenience. The lectures are then available via student labs, regional campuses, to cable modem subscribers, dialup, etc. This paper discusses the issues of technology selection for different audiences, media integration, equipment selection, mobility considerations, production, and related politics.
