CAMPUS PROFILE: Santa Barbara City College

Abstract

This article profiles Santa Barbara City College, a two-year community college offering associate degrees in arts and sciences, as well as occupational/technological training and business programs, and serving 12,000 students in credit programs and 17,000 non-credit students in its Continuing Education program each term. The College has long recognized the need for strategic planning that encompasses specific technology-related goals, and two years ago the College Planning Council developed Project Redesign, to restructure over 100 core instructional, administrative, and student support processes. Many of the recommended changes have now been implemented, including creation of a Faculty Resource Center and a new "information literacy" course. The article is based on a visit to Santa Barbara City College by _CAUSE/EFFECT_ editor Julia Rudy.
