Abstract
Portals build upon existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, bringing their wealth of information and intelligence to the user. They provide a new flexible desktop environment, where all services and information a university has to offer are delivered to the right person at the right time, any time and anywhere. They will incorporate personal links and access general office productivity tools like e-mail, word processing, or spreadsheet software. In short, the portal is quickly emerging as the new desktop.
