The Evolution of the CIO: An EDUCAUSE Issues Brief
Wednesday, October 28, 2009
Abstract
Mobile technologies, consumer IT services, cloud computing, and changing expectations impact what colleges and universities want and need from IT and IT leaders. Economic pressures only heighten those challenges. From August to September 2009, EDUCAUSE interviewed 14 higher education chief information officers (CIOs) to understand how these developments are influencing the evolution of the role. From those conversations, EDUCAUSE distilled a series of key themes and issues that highlight the present state and future directions of the profession. Those are presented in The Evolution of the CIO, along with recommendations for how CIOs and EDUCAUSE might strengthen the capacity of the role to serve the best interests of higher education.
