Financing New Information Access Paradigms, or Why Academic Information Managers Need Cost Models

Abstract

A fundamental shift in the way information is produced, processed, stored, and distributed has brought academic information management to a crossroads. Passage will require strategies that must include development of econimic models. This article is based on an address given by the author at a meeting of the Task Force of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) on November 21, 1991, in Washington, DC.
