HR for IT: Managing People in a Decentralized IT Environment

Abstract

This paper discusses the partnership between the human resources and information technology departments at Wake Forest University. The authors begin by describing the decentralized staffing function within the organizational hierarchy of information technology at Wake Forest University and then discuss human resources' role in attracting, hiring and retaining staff. Results from a job satisfaction survey administered to IT staff are also presented. The paper concludes with challenges the partnership faces, and the lessons learned.
