Identity Assurance at Virginia Tech

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Abstract

In June, 2008, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors passed a resolution on increasing administrative efficiencies through expansion of automated systems and enhanced security. The resolution charged vice presidents to develop a plan to continue to automate the university's administrative systems utilizing modern information technology processes and security tools to gain process efficiencies. The Vice President for Information Technology and CIO is responsible for creating and ensuring compliance with security standards, so he took the challenge by initiating a standard for use of personal digital identities. The standard offers guidance to sponsors who need to make decisions about credentials used to authenticate to systems and applications.
