Improving Student Life at Duke University Through a Campus Card System

Abstract

This paper is a case study of how the DukeCard program has improved student life at Duke University by providing greater convenience and safety for cardholders and by serving as a management informaion system. The card includes a dining plan, a debit account, access to residence halls and academic buildings, library privileges and admission to athletic events. The system allows Duke to collect demographic data which helps determine the hours of operation and food options for eating facilities on campus.
