Inclusive Teaching and Learning Practices: Applications of Universal Design

Abstract

Most postsecondary faculty and administrators desire to make teaching and learning opportunities engaging for all students, but many do not feel fully prepared to ensure that their offerings are fully accessible to potential students with disabilities. This presentation will address typical disabilities of postsecondary students, challenges they encounter in accessing technology-based learning opportunities, assistive technology that provides access to technology, and universal design strategies that can be employed to make teaching and learning welcoming and accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. Practical suggestions will be offered and resources will be shared.
