IT Outsourcing at the California State University

Abstract

This ECAR case study chronicles the IT outsourcing component of the California State University's $400 million ERP implementation. Based on the 1996 Integrated Technology Strategy and subsequent studies, this 23-campus institution was spending $50-60 million annually to operate more than 20 separate data centers. This university has adopted a common management system (ERP) making it possible to consolidate data center operations. CSU awarded an IT outsourcing contract to UNISYS for ERP hosting, hardware and software maintenance, data recovery, help desk, and other key activities
