Abstract
In this article, Ben Shneiderman ponders the current issues that might occupy the laptop of an Internet-age Thomas Jefferson. The author imagines the arguments Jefferson's laptop would contain about the issues of universal service, educational technology for students, and easy access to government information, and why public discussion of these issues is needed.
