Abstract
Many higher education institutions are considering outsourcing some IT operational services. This Research Bulletin provides an overview of why institutions outsource, the most common functions outsourced, the problems most frequently encountered, and the benefits realized when outsourcing. Based on research and a survey of EDUCAUSE members, a five-step process for outsourcing is proposed.
