Letter on the SOPA Managers Amendment (12/13/11)

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Abstract

Letter on behalf of EDUCAUSE, the Association of American Universities (AAU), the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU), and the American Council on Education (ACE) to Chairman Lamar Smith and Ranking Member John Conyers of the House Judiciary Committee regarding the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) Managers Amendment. Although the Amendment addresses issues previously raised by EDUCAUSE and AAU, it does carry forward "problematic provisions that we believe will pose problems for legitimate uses of copyrighted material," particulary as relates to the streaming provisions. A more detailed response highlighting concerns is attached as part of this letter.
