Leveraging Technology Investment: Making It Happen

Abstract
The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority provided the fiber strands, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts provided the IT bond funding, and the University of Massachusetts implemented the technology to build a statewide network for public use. This presentation updates the audience on how the University of Massachusetts is leveraging this technology investment to meet the needs of higher education, public libraries, K-12 school districts, and state agencies. It highlights the delivery of Internet, video, hosting, and transport services delivered over the MITI (Massachusetts Information Turnpike Initiative) backbone network. The presentation also examines opportunities for leveraging this technology investment to share the costs of new ERP applications and disaster-recovery solutions.
