Market Profile: Rich Mobile Application Platforms for the Smartphone 2010

Abstract

Rich mobile applications (RMAs) provide powerful opportunities for institutions to interact with students, faculty, and staff via the smartphones in their pockets. RMAs integrate with and leverage advanced device features, such as accelerometers and global positioning system (GPS) chips. While the RMA market is still nascent, complex, innovative, and competitive, demand for smartphone-enabled applications is growing, and enterprise RMAs are rapidly shifting from "nice to have" to "mandatory." This study examines the current strategies of the leading RMA platform vendors and discusses options for addressing issues of portability across platforms.
