Abstract
The NIH Roadmap spells out the expectations for new modes of discovery through creation of interdisciplinary research partnerships and reengineering of the clinical research enterprise. Through NIH-funded initiatives, the research community will explore new organizational models for team science. These "virtual organizations" will span departments and institutions and involve cooperation between public and private sectors.Identity management will be a key to interorganizational collaboration, requiring appropriate authentication and authorization controls. In this talk, attendees will learn about the NIH vision for virtual organizations and the ways in which the agency's programs will provide opportunities for academic medical centers and partners to develop the research teams of the future.
