Rethinking Faculty Development: One Size Does Not Fit All
Wednesday, January 1, 2003
The Innovative Technology Center (ITC) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, goes beyond normal faculty support and services to continually extend its reach to faculty. New initiatives include launching the Wireless Instructional Initiatives (WII) program to investigate the impact of wireless computing on teaching and learning; a statewide collaborative offering online faculty training across the five-campus UT system; presentations by faculty members on specific instructional technology topics; a monthly educational technology colloquy; an evening series of workshops for faculty cohorts; and a graduate teaching assistant grant/mentorship program. The ITC's approach to faculty development strives to touch all teaching staff, regardless of where they fall in the technology adoption cycle. The presentation will include a review of the 2001 Wireless Instructional Strategies for the Humanities (WISH) pilot project.
