The Unexpected Webification of FRS

Abstract

Wesleyan University has used the Financial Records System (FRS) from SCT for 10 years. Replacements are approximately two to three years away. Consequently, the Office of Finance and Administration and ITS have provided Web interfaces for both reporting and entering of data in FRS. We created the reporting database from simple extracts of FRS to Oracle with a WEBDB interface and the ability to extract to an Excel spreadsheet. On the entry side, Wesleyan is partnering with the University of Maryland to implement their web-based electronic forms systems, ELF, which will feed journal, AP, and travel vouchers from the Web directly into FRS. The hope is that this will eliminate the need for a majority of users to ever log into FRS while giving them better, more immediate control over their transactions and data.
