Abstract
Both fulfilling the economic promise of the Information Age and achieving a just society require universal access to technology. Unlike historic universal needs such as electricity and telephones, technology requires not only access but also education. Therefore, colleges and universities have a responsibility to help democratize technology. Remote location, low budget, small size, average students, invisible reputation, faculty resistance, and a threatening environment are among the perceived barriers to high technology for all. Yet most of these are assets, not liabilities. Regardless of circumstances, you can do it. It's fun. And it's the right thing to do.
