The USA-PATRIOT Act and Future Congressional Legislation's Impact on Higher Education - Panel Discussion

Abstract

Six months have passed since President Bush signed the USA-PATRIOT Act into law, expanding law-enforcement powers in ways likely to affect university networks and the ability of students, faculty, and staff to access and use information. As higher education professionals, how do we balance the dilemma of being patriotic citizens while ensuring that the academy remains an open resource for learning and personal expression? Panelists will provide their perspective on how the Act has impacted their campus and will lead attendees in a dialogue on whether any changes are necessary.
