Biography

I am an Associate Professor of Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation in the School of Education at Syracuse University.

My research interests lie at the intersection of user experience, identity, and e-Learning technologies. Very broadly, I am interested in how policy and design affect the user experience. A current project I am working on looks at the emergence of Web 2.0 technologies and the ways in which these technologies promise but do not necessarily deliver democratic discourse or assist marginalized populations. I am exploring how users are constructed within online contexts, and how certain groups are excluded from access to information on the basis of those distinctions. I see access as an issue of social justice, and am committed to promoting access to the creation, distribution, and use of information.

I hold a B.S. in English Education and a M.S. in Instructional Media and Curriculum Studies from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. in Educational Communications Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
