Biography
Alan V. Shackelford is a self-taught Unix admin specializing in DNS, web proxy and email. Alan runs the enterprise DNS and proxy servers at The Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes in Baltimore, Maryland. He also administers a web application firewall appliance and cooperates with network security to try to prevent successful attacks. The web servers in the Hopkins institutions serve millions of page views per day and are constantly under attack. Alan manages to stay busy keeping up with DNS changes, proxy server upgrades, customer service issues web application firewalling.
