Alyssa Wise

Biography

Dr. Alyssa Friend Wise is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and Coordinator of the Educational Technology & Learning Design Programs. She has over 15 years teaching and course-design experience including face-to-face, blended and online classes and has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference proceedings on topics relating to learning and technology. An integral member and contributor to both the Learning Sciences and Learning Analytics communities, her research focuses on developing digital environments and analytics that work productively together to promote learning. Dr. Wise holds a Ph.D. in the Learning Sciences and M.S. in Instructional Systems Technology, both from Indiana University, and a B. S. in Chemistry from Yale University.

    The rapid growth in data generated and collected during educational activities has great potential to inform how we teach and learn. In creating data-informed learning environments, campuses can generate synergies between learning analytics and learning design that allow for real-time adjustment and long-term iterative improvement of digital and physical learning spaces.
