Biography

Amanda Robertson is Assistant Director of Educational Media Development with NC State University's DELTA (Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications), where she researches and develops rich media and other Internet-based tools that broaden the scope of online learning for faculty and students. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Art + Design in the College of Design where she has taught for ten years. She won the Gertrude Cox Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology for her course design. Her recent interests have focused on Serious Games and the use of simulations and gaming to enhance student learning.

She is a co-owner of two companies: Nine Oak Media, LLC, a North Carolina company that focuses on the development of educational games and media, and and a non-profit company, Pittsboro Matters, Inc., that supports a sustainable local community.

Amanda is a graduate of NC State’s Masters of Industrial Design program where she studied interface design and multimedia design as a tool to facilitate learning. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Graphic Design degree from NC State.

Previously, Amanda owned and managed a graphic design firm, Imedia Graphics, where she pursued projects that presented a challenge in the design of educational and cultural materials, particularly for K-12 students and teachers.

Amanda has exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, and the New Britain Museum of American Art with the EAT Collaborative. She has presented her work at several national conferences, including Educause, National Middle School Association, Museums and the Web, and the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education, and has published her research on design process and online cross-cultural education systems in the International Journal of Social Education.
