Brian Atkinson

Biography

Dr. Brian Atkinson is faculty in the Ira A Fulton Schools of Engineering on the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University where he teaches topics that include Natural Language Processing, Research and Statistics, and Information Modeling, Storage, and Retrieval courses.

Prior to working at ASU, Dr. Atkinson was a Visiting Assistant Professor and Digital Scholarship Research Coordinator for the University of Illinois at Chicago Libraries.  He combined more than 20 years of professional experience at the University of Arizona serving as an IT director, assistant dean and lecturer.  His academic background in text analysis, statistics and visiualization to support new initiatives in Digital Humanities and Digital Scholarship.

Brian received a PhD in Information Science, a Master's in Library Sciences and a BFA in Art from the University of Arizona. His initial graduate coursework concentrated on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Usability, and Statistics. His current research focuses on big data, statistics, natural languge processing and the application to social problems and concerns.
